Pradhan Ujlwala Yojana (PMUY) has been launched in several states but Uttar Pradesh listed top throughout the country. In the whole country 10 million women have been benefited under PM Ujjwala Yojana out of which 3.4 are from Uttar Pradesh which goes to the polls for next year.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) started by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the women of the rural areas. Under this scheme the women of the families who belong to Economically Weaker section (EWS) and from Low Income Group (LIG) throughout the country.
Uttar Pradesh is the state in which the number of the beneficiaries is more than the other states under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwla Yojana. This scheme was launched at Balia in Uttar Pradesh, this scheme has so far covered 642 districts. Under this scheme around 10 million women have taken the benefit throughout the country.
The beneficiaries under this scheme who have taken the benefit are mostly belong to the poor families according to the official statements. In Uttar Pradesh, Sitapur leads the beneficiary list of Ujjwala with 129,000 cooking gas connections followed by Allahbad 126,000, Khusinagar 116,000, Unnao 87,752 and Gonda84,173.
Uttar Pradesh is the largest beneficiary state with 3.4 million poor women getting connections followed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha. The states are given priority status if LPG connections are less than national average of 61% households. Geographically and economically challenged states received priority on account of limited access to liquefied petroleum gas or cooking gas.
In terms of the execution, MGNREGA comes ahead of Ujjwala. Giving clean cooking fuel – once considered a privilege of middle class – to poor has a budget of Rs. 8000 crore for three years to cover 50 million poor women.
